These terms govern your use of Beit Midrash. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to them.
1. Acceptance of terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and the operator of Beit Midrash ("we", "us", "our") regarding your access to and use of the Beit Midrash website, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you should use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
We may refuse registration, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or applicable law.
3. Nature of the Service
Beit Midrash is an educational technology platform for Jewish text study. It integrates third-party text sources (including Sefaria), user-generated content, community features, audio tools, calendars, and AI-assisted study tools.
The Service is provided for learning and discussion. It does not provide rabbinic rulings (psak halakhah), legal advice, medical advice, or professional counseling. Always consult qualified authorities for matters of Jewish law, health, or personal safety.
AI-generated content may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. You are responsible for verifying important information against primary sources and qualified teachers.
4. Your content and license
You retain ownership of content you submit (posts, notes, messages, profile information, and similar materials). By submitting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content solely to operate and improve the Service.
You represent that you have the rights to submit your content and that it does not infringe third-party rights or violate law.
We may remove content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines, or when required by law. Moderators and administrators may review reported content.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service. Prohibited conduct includes, without limitation:
- Harassment, hate speech, threats, or discrimination against individuals or groups
- Posting unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or sexually exploitative material
- Impersonation, spam, phishing, or deceptive practices
- Attempting to bypass security, scrape the Service at scale, or disrupt infrastructure
- Uploading malware or interfering with other users' access
- Using the Service to promote violence or illegal activity
- Misrepresenting AI output as authoritative rabbinic guidance
6. Intellectual property
The Beit Midrash name, branding, software, and original materials are owned by us or our licensors. Jewish texts and commentaries may be subject to separate licenses from Sefaria and other rights holders; your use of those texts remains subject to their terms.
You may not copy, modify, or reverse engineer the Service except as permitted by law or with our written consent.
7. Third-party services
The Service may link to or integrate third-party websites, APIs, email providers, hosting, analytics, and AI model providers. We are not responsible for third-party services and your use of them may be governed by separate terms.
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal data. By using the Service, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.
9. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI outputs will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars (USD $100), except where liability cannot be limited under applicable law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operator of Beit Midrash from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.
12. Changes and termination
We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations, risk to other users, or legal requirements.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the operator's principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country provide otherwise.
Before filing a formal dispute, please contact us at the support email listed on our Feedback page so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
